How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world.

India is Calling. Do you hear it?
Every year, the demand by first years for the NSS programme has been overwhelming. Within the new structure of NSS, you will be involved in projects of your choice.
To pass the NSS course, the NSS Volunteer must earn two types of credits: Project Credits, earned by involving in NSS Projects, and Event Credits, earned by participating in the NSS events conducted through the year.
IITians are supposed to be the best brains in the country. We are in a setup where most things are available to us. A place where anything should be possible. And that is exactly what we’re aiming for.
The new NSS dreams of a system where the sky is the limit. Where reinventing the wheel is not the order of the day.
By working out projects from Braille magazines to technology interventions, from teaching children in urban slums to educational video content, NSS (IITM) seeks to challenge the mediocre thinking, and reach out into the darkness, to pull a hand into the light.
Projects list OUT! Click Here.
Each initiative of NSS will be pursued as a project, which would run separately and seamlessly through its entire duration. Projects can be taken up by any student of IIT Madras in any course. They need not have had previous experience with NSS. These projects can be of any duration, from a few weeks to many months long.
The timeline, budget and work plan will be defined for every project. The progress will be periodically reported and documented. The project will be reviewed by the Advisory Committee about twice a semester. They will be assisted by the Managerial team at all times.
Every team will have a Project Team Representative, who will act as the interface between the Project team and the Managerial Team/Advisory Committee, and will be responsible for the progress of the project.

They inspire us. We are, merely but students, and all that can we can hope to ever achieve is, but trivial. YOU can help. We need various resources, some of which are given below:
- Funding for various projects
- Essential, emergency skills like fire-fighting, medi-aid, safety drills etc.
- We invite many a personalities to encourage and enlighten us in the field of social service. Can you help?
- Computer skills like photoshop,flashplayer, video-making, etc.
We could go on, but this was to give you an idea. If you think you can help us out in any manner, we would be more than happy to listen to you. E-mail us at: nss@iitm.ac.in. Or go to the contact us page if you wish to speak to us personally.
The human touch is essential in any project, field and service. More so, for in what we do, we change lives-for the better. Here are some of the most beautiful moments captured by our photography team.
This is the most crucial powerhouse of NSS. It will be responsible for all the social contributions made by NSS (IITM).

- Faculty Advisors: A faculty advisor will have to attend the reviews/ workshops held from time to time by different NSS projects.
- Student Mentors/Advisors: This is a group of students who have prior experience in social service, handpicked by the faculty coordinator. They will be advisors/ mentors to one or more than one NSS projects. They will be ready to advise them through the logistics of planning and execution of the project..
